Justin Faulk scored the go-ahead goal and added an assist, and Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves to beat his former team as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the host Florida Panthers 5-3 on Monday night in Sunrise.
Panthers goalie Jacob Markstrom made 24 saves in his first appearance since Oct. 17. He sustained an upper-body injury during practice two days later and missed five games.
Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad and Sam Bennett scored for the Panthers, who had their three-game win streak.
Carter Mazur, Alex DeBrincat and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard also scored for the Red Wings, and Emmitt Finnie added an empty-net goal with three seconds left. Mazur, 24, scored his first NHL goal in his 18th career game
Detroit opened the scoring at 5:26 in the first period when Mazur scored on a blast from the left circle.
Florida tied the score with 14:19 gone in the first. After a Detroit turnover, Carter Verhaeghe found Reinhart in the slot, and the Panthers forward beat Tarasov over his glove to tie the game.
Detroit went ahead again, 1:26 into the second. Following a skate-on-skate collision and a Panther defender falling, the Red Wings got a 3-on-1 break, and DeBrincat scored on a pass from Viktor Arvidsson.
But the Panthers tied it again, this time on Ekblad's short-handed rebound goal off Tarasov's body with 15:25 gone in the second.
With 17:52 left in the third, Detroit took its third lead of the game as Faulk scored on a power-play shot from the point that found the net under Markstrom's glove. Michael Rasmussen provided a screen in front.
Detroit broke the alternating-goals pattern just 45 seconds later when Brandsegg-Nygard converted a pass from Lucas Raymond in the slot.
After pulling Markstrom for an extra attacker, Florida cut its deficit to 4-3 on Bennett's goal with 3:20 left, but the Panthers could not get the equalizer.
