Frederick Gaudreau scores twice as Kraken separate from Red Wings (NHL)

Frederick Gaudreau scored two of Seattle's four straight second-period goals as the Kraken pulled away to a 6-3 victory over the host Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

Ben Meyers supplied a goal and two assists, while Berkly Catton had a goal and an assist. Mackie Samoskevich and Vince Dunn also scored for the Kraken, while Philipp Grubauer made 38 saves.

William Wallinder and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored their first NHL goals for Detroit. Viktor Arvidsson scored for the third straight game.

The Red Wings had a 16-5 shots on goal advantage in the first period but it ended in a 1-1 tie.

With Jordan Eberle in the penalty box for slashing, the Red Wings scored at 9:19 of the period. Lucas Raymond took a shot from the right side that trickled through the legs of Grubauer. Arvidsson then tapped it into the net.

Catton tied it with 5:08 left in the period. He took a pass from Kaapo Kakko and pushed a backhander past Detroit starting goalie John Gibson on the short side. Josh Mahura picked up the second assist.

Wallinder scored his breakthrough with a shot from the point four minutes into the second period. Alex DeBrincat and Brandsegg-Nygård collected the assists.

Gaudreau scored 39 seconds later to tie it. He converted from short range off a behind-the-net pass from Ryan Winterton. Meyers had the second assist.

Samoskevich gave the Kraken the lead at 6:59 of the period. He scored in front off a feed from Jared McCann.

Gaudreau's second goal of the game came at 7:44 of the period. He lifted a shot over Gibson's glove from the left circle. Winterton and Meyers once again had the assists.

Meyers made it 5-2 with 5:55 left in the period with assists from Catton and Brandon Montour. Right after serving a penalty, Meyers skated into the offensive zone and fired a shot from the right circle past Gibson.

That ended Gibson's night, as he was pulled for Daniil Tarasov.

Dunn scored during a 5-on-3 advantage in the third period.
